No. The background is removed by an AI model that runs entirely in your browser, on your own device. Your photo is never uploaded, which keeps it completely private.
What image formats can I use?
You can upload JPG, PNG and WebP images, and download the result as a PNG with a transparent background.
How do I get a transparent background?
After the background is removed, click Download PNG. PNG preserves transparency, so your subject sits on an empty background ready for any color or design. See our transparent background guide.
Can I replace the background instead of just removing it?
Yes. Once the background is gone, use the Background options right below the preview: keep it transparent, choose a solid color, blur the original photo behind your subject for a portrait look, or upload your own image. Your subject stays sharp on top, then download the finished PNG.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, in recent mobile browsers such as Chrome, Safari and Edge. Larger photos take a little longer on a phone.
How does the background removal work?
It uses a U²-Net AI segmentation model running through ONNX Runtime Web (WebAssembly). The model finds the main subject and erases everything else — all locally in your browser.
Can I fine-tune the result?
